Wayne Swarts

Wayne Kenneth Swarts, 75, of Sheridan, passed away on Friday, December 11, 2020 at Spectrum Health United Memorial Hospital in Greenville. Wayne was born on March 22, 1945 in Lansing, the son of W.K. and Arlene (Grinnell) Swarts.

After high school, Wayne attended Ferris State University. He married Judy Wilson on April 29, 1972 in Sidney, and together they have enjoyed over 48 years of marriage. Wayne was a veteran of the United States Air Force, and worked for many years in the construction trade, when he would get laid off in the winter, he would do factory work until the springtime. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and especially loved golfing! He was a longtime member of Glenkerry Golf Course in Greenville and played countless rounds of golf, having made numerous friends over the years working and golfing there. Wayne was an excellent woodworker and enjoyed cabinet making. He could always be counted on for a good joke and loved to pick on those he loved. Wayne liked watching the Detroit Tigers and enjoyed cheering on MSU, despite the objections from his family. A natural born talker, Wayne was known as a great conversationalist and would frequently strike up conversations with strangers everywhere he went. To Wayne, the important thing in life, was his family. Wayne delighted in spending time with his kids and grandkids and enjoyed every moment spent with them. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.

Wayne is survived by his wife; Judy, his children; Kenneth (Mabel) Swarts of Colorado Springs, Robin (Steve) Kleck of Greenville, Brian (Tracy) Swarts of Edmore, Gary (Melissa) Swarts of Zeeland, 12 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, his siblings; Dave (Diane) Swarts, Marie Swarts, Cathy (Mick) Blauer, Dan Swarts, all the staff at Glenkerry Golf Course, as well as the friends he made there, and many other extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 5-7pm on Monday, December 14, 2020 at the Sheridan Assembly of God church (4010 S Sheridan Rd, Sheridan). Funeral services will be on Tuesday at 11am also at church, with visitation one-hour prior as well. Memorial donations in memory of Wayne may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
