Shelby J. Waite, age 74, of Sheridan passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at the Sheridan Community Hospital. She was born on February 12, 1939 in Ronald Township, Ionia County, the daughter of Guy & Anna (White) Jeffrey. Both parents have preceded her in death.
On August 25, 1956, Shelby was married to Russell Waite and he preceded her in death on April 15, 1996.
Surviving are her children, Sue & Curt Herald of Sheridan, Marilyn & Craig King of Greenville, Russell & Linda Waite of Sheridan, 8 grandchildren, Jim & Jill King, Ashley King, Alex King, Eric-Ryan King & Sierra Niles, Megan Waite & John Heath, Amanda Waite, Shelley & Rick Treynor, Laura & Dustin Bensinger, 5 great grandchildren, Elizabeth King, Brooklyn & Ben Treynor, Lexi & Easton Bensinger, 3 sisters, Sharon & Clare Brooks, Alice & Lyle Blaisdell, Donna Horn, all of Stanton, 2 brothers, Marlin & Rose Jeffrey of Belding, Marvin & Cheryl Jeffrey of Sheridan, sisters-in-law, Audrey & Fred Clementz, Caroline & Melvin Sinclair, Joyce & Roger Sage, Genevieve Troope, Janice & Tom Moon and a special aunt, Bernice Johnson plus several nieces and nephews.
Shelby has been a lifelong resident of the Sheridan area and attended the Trinity Church in Stanton. For many years, she was a foster grandparent in the school systems and loved the kids. She kept her mind sharp with crossword puzzles as well as knitting for family and friends and cooking. In addition, she was a retired bookkeeper.
Funeral services beginning at 11:30 AM will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at the Trinity Church in Stanton with Pastor Kurt Hoffman officiating. Interment will be at the South Sidney Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Simpson Family Funeral Home in Sheridan on Tuesday from 3:00 until 4:00 PM and 6:00 until 8:00 PM where the family will meet with friends and relatives.
