Roy Hopkins Sr.

November 14, 1945 — February 26, 2021

Roy E. Hopkins, Sr., age 75, of Sheridan, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, February 26, 2021.

Roy was a man who never really met a stranger. If you just met him, it didn’t take long for Roy to introduce himself and before long you would be chatting it up like you were lifelong friends; he had a special way with people. During his 35+ year career with Consumers Power, Roy had the opportunity to travel all over the state, see lots of sites, and build many great friendships. He enjoyed being outdoors, going camping, and deer hunting. He was an avid MSU Spartan Football fan (Go Green) and wasn’t afraid to share his feelings about the game with the players, coaches, and refs, through his TV. However, Roy’s most favorite thing to do was spend time with his family and he could often be found planning family get togethers, taking the grandkids camping, and being involved in their lives. He was also famous for capturing those special moments with his disposable cameras and those pictures are now treasures his family will hold near to them. Roy was also a faithful member of the Mt. Hope United Brethren Church in Carson City.

Surviving Roy is his wife of 56 years, Carol; daughters, Angela Hopkins of Sheridan; Trisha (Daryl) Hagerman of Carson City; sons, Roy Jr. (Sandy) Hopkins of Harrison; Wayne (April) Hopkins of Sheridan; grandchildren, Ashley Everest; Samantha Everest; Josh (Whitney) Hopkins; Dakota Hopkins; Jacob Hopkins; Devon Davis; Ashlie (Seth) Heckman; Alec (Megan) Keck; Austin Hopkins; Seth Hagerman; Alyssa Keck; Rolin Hagerman; Logan Hopkins; Ella Hagerman; Allie Hopkins; 14 great grandchildren; lots of great friends; and his beloved red lab “Lady”.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, George Jr. & Sylvia (Kilean) Hopkins; and brothers, Harry Hopkins and Ken Robar.

Roy’s life is being celebrated on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at the Mt. Hope United Brethren Church (5011 Mt. Hope Road, Carson City) with visitation from 10 to 11 AM and a memorial service starting at 11 AM. Roy will be laid to rest in Crystal Cemetery.
