Richard Ravell

Richard G. Ravell, age 84, of Alma, formerly of Sheridan, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Masonic Pathways in Alma. He was born on March 19, 1929 in Belding, the son of Watkin & Cecile (Rowland) Ravell.
On June 14, 1950 in Grand Rapids, Richard was married to the former Mary Lou Comstock. She as well as his parents has preceded him in death.
Surviving are his two sons and their wives, Mark & Gail Ravell of Fenwick and Ken & Becky Ravell of Belding, his grandchildren, Renae & David Simpson of Royal Oak, Michigan, Amanda & Jason Bricker of Kentwood, Hilary Ravell & Bryce Butler of Ionia, Spencer Ravell of Fenwick, Bill & Jessica Ravell of Belding, three great grandchildren, Cole Simpson, Aubrey Simpson, Nolan Bricker and one sister, Joanne Doty of Portland, Oregon and her family.
Richard was a longtime resident of the Fenwick and Sheridan areas where he was a fruit grower, township supervisor and Montcalm County commissioner. He was involved in many organizations including Belding Fruit Sales & Storage, Greenville Area Title Insurance, Huntington Bank, Fountain View RV Park, the Masonic Lodge and the Saladin Shrine Temple.
Funeral services beginning at 11:00 AM will be held on Wednesday, May 29th at the Simpson Family Funeral Home in Sheridan with Rev. George H. Ayoub officiating. Interment will be at the Palo Cemetery, Palo, Michigan.
Visitation with the family will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM where the family will meet with friends and relatives.
For those desiring to do so, the family has suggested memorial considerations can be made to Masonic Pathways and there will be envelopes available at the funeral home.

I came to know Dick through the Wittenbach family and was blessed to enjoy Dick and Mary Lou’s cottage on Clifford Lake a few times for relaxing vacations. I loved Dick’s Dad, Wat, and found so many of his pleasant characteristics and values also in his son. My sympathy to Mark and Ken and their families and Dick’s sister, Joanne. May he know the full joy of God’s gracious embrace and be joined once again with his beloved Mary Lou and his parents.
