Paul J. Cloer, age 81, of Sheridan, passed away on Saturday, June 5, 2021, in Grand Rapids at Spectrum Health Butterworth.
Having been born and raised in Germany, in 1959, Paul, at the young age of 19, set off on a journey which would forever change his life. Knowing no english, he immigrated to the United States. Shortly after arriving, Paul, still a German citizen, was drafted into the United States Army. While stationed at Fort Knox, Paul met the love of his life, Judy and together they enjoyed 55 years together. Paul worked for General Motors for 30+ years as a supervisor. He loved watching horse racing, especially when his son Joe would race. Paul and Judy traveled extensively over the United States, and they loved seeing all the beautiful country and national parks. Later in life, Paul became an avid collector of beer steins and would spend hours researching his latest find.
Surviving Paul is his wife, Judy; sons, Joe Cloer of Sheridan and Garrett (Jessica) Cloer of Iowa City, Iowa; sister, Lucie Pietsch of Wausau, Wisconsin; nieces and nephews, Claudia; Renate; Andrew; Christopher; Michael; and Martina. Also surviving Paul his beloved cat, Kraken.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, August & Lucie Cloer and his brother, Hansel Cloer.
A memorial service celebrating Paul’s life is being held on Wednesday, June 9th, at the Simpson Family Funeral Home (246 S. Main St.) in Sheridan, beginning at 11 AM. Final inurnment will be at Rest Haven Memory Gardens in Belding.
