Mildred G. (Milly) Petersen, age 88, of Greenville, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at the Twin Oaks Retirement Home, Gowen, Michigan. She was born on September 21, 1924 in Stanton, the daughter of Milo & Carolena (Doorn) Christiansen.
On September 26, 1942, Mildred was married to Kervin C. (Pete) Petersen in Greenville.
Surviving Mildred is one daughter, Carol Magoon of Greenville, 2 grandsons, Broc Magoon of Vestaburg and Bron (Karen) Magoon of Grand Ledge, 5 great grandchildren, Nathan Faling, Elizabeth Hodge, Emily & Makayla Magoon and Tom Anderson Jr., 1 brother, Edward Christiansen of Stanton, 5 sisters, Eleanor Lentz of St. Louis, Marjory Staines of Florida, Joan (Raymond) Williams of Stanton, Lucille (George) Johnson of Freeport and Phyllis Black of Howard City, a brother-in-law, Art Ritter of Stanton, and 2 sisters-in-law, Lois Christiansen & Verla Johnson, both of Greenville.
Preceding Mildred in death were her parents, her husband, Kervin (Pete) Petersen, a son-in-law, Raymond Magoon, 2 granddaughters, Trudi Magoon, and Kristina Magoon, a great granddaughter, Chelsea K. Magoon, 2 brothers, Eldon & Homer Christiansen, 1 sister, Marian Ritter, 6 brothers-in-law, Garrett Black, Ken Staines, Bill Lentz, Andrew Johnson, Leonard Larsen and Wayne Parr plus 3 sisters-in-law, Joyce Christiansen, Bonita Parr and Marcella Larsen.
A longtime resident of the Greenville area, Milly was employed at Federal Mogul for 33 years, retiring in 1979. She loved the outdoors, her gardens and their farm, as well as the woods, hunting and watching wildlife. Giving berries, vegetables and flowers to her friends and family was a delight to her. All of her clothes were sewn by herself along with her many quilts and “bonnet baby” dolls that she and Pete crafted. To have at least one leisurely ride and stop for that quick cup of coffee was a perfect day for her.
Funeral services beginning at 11:00 AM will be held at the Simpson Family Funeral Home in Sheridan on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 with Pastor Rev. Dr. Jerrold T. Jones officiating. Interment will be at the Riverside Cemetery, Langston.
Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 26th from 5:00 until 7:00 PM where the family will meet with friends and relatives.
