Melvin Cotton Jr.

Melvin M. Cotton Jr., age 32, of Ithaca passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at his home.

He was born the son of Melvin M. Cotton Sr. and Jennifer L. Sherwood on August 24, 1984 in Lansing.

Melvin is preceded in death by his great grandma Berneice Pearl; grandma Julia Cotton and several uncles.

Surviving Melvin is his mother, Jen Sherwood of Sheridan; father, Melvin Cotton, Sr. of Vancouver, British Columbia; step mother, Susan Beebe of Sheridan; girlfriend, Tina Smith of Ithaca; daughter, Olivia Cotton of Ithaca; grandparents, Nancy & Peter Luckhurst of Ft. Myers, Florida, Grandpa Eugene Sherwood of Sand Lake; sister, Julia (Daniel) Hawthorne of Richmond, Virginia; brother, Michael Sherwood of Sheridan; nieces, Violet and Lilyenne Sherwood of Flint and nephew, Christian Sherwood of Flint and many aunts and uncles.

Melvin was a wonderful man who had a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off of his back. He was a stay at home dad who loved his children. He enjoyed playing video games, listening to hip-hop and rap music and also loved a good summer BBQ. His smile would light up the room and he will be greatly missed by everyone.

A memorial service celebrating Melvin’s life will be held at a later date.
