To the family of Marian Ek, my friend and co-worker for many years: it was with sadness that I read Marian’s obituary. Many memories flooded my mind as I recalled teaching in the room next to hers at Stanton Elementary. I can still feel the joy as Margaret Church, Marian, and I planned second grade activities and then rushed down to the office to present these plans to Steve Strait, our principal. He’d look up and jokingly say “Here comes triple trouble”. Usually, he’d agree to the plans presented, Margaret and I knew he would, if we had Marian with us, for he valued Marian’s judgments so much. She was always fair and very Christ-like to work with during these joy-filled years. My last and wonderful memory of Marian was our ride to the Rural Bible Mission headquarters to do some tapes for the RBM Anniversary last year. Ruth & Everett Burkey drove and Marian and I sat in the back seat and visited each inch of the way. We reminisced and remembered and shared and didn’t waste a minute in silence. She was a fine Christian lady, a great friend, and I’m a better person for having known her. I’m sure you will find II Timothy 4:6-8 describes this fine lady’s life. I leave them with you for your comfort. I would like to be at Marian’s funeral but I have a bad cold and must not venture out. I’m so sorry to have to be absent. Yours in Christ, Geraldine Christensen

I was fortunate enough to have Mrs. Ek as a teacher at Stanton Elementary. As an adult, I am often asked of their was a teacher (or teachers) that I felt made a difference to me. Although Mrs. Ek was an early elemtary teacher, I still view her as one of individuals that aided in my formulation of what the institution of school meant! She was caring, loving definitely touched the students hearts. I have thought of her often over the years. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
