Marguerite Thompson, age 93, of Sidney, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at her home. She was born on September 23, 1917 in Montcalm Township, the daughter of Julius & Maggie (Brown) Petersen.
On April 10, 1944, Marguerite was married to Robert H. “Bob” Thompson and he preceded her in death on August 10, 2002. Also preceding her in death were her parents and her brother and sister in law, Howard & Reva Petersen.
Surviving are six nieces and nephews, Sue & Jeff Woudenberg of Sidney, Mark & Trudy Petersen of Greenville along with their two children, Kayla &Devon, Dr. Gregory & Barbara Johnson of Brooklyn, New York, Christy Rosen of Denver, Colorado, David & Nancy Thomsen of Los Altos, California and Shelly Thomsen of Grand Rapids along with a brother in law and his wife, Howard “Bud” & Juanita Thompson of Grand Rapids and several other great nieces and nephews.
Marguerite has been a lifelong resident of the Sidney area where she and her late husband, Bob, owned and operated Thompson Farms for many years. In addition, she retired as an executive secretary from Gibson Refrigeration in Greenville. She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church, the Danish Sisterhood and the N. Sidney Cemetery and Historical Society.
Funeral services will be held at the Faith Lutheran Church, Sidney, on Friday, May 13th, beginning at 11:00 A.M. with pastoral leader, Bernice “Deno” Sorrels officiating.
Visitation will be at the Simpson Family Funeral Home, Sheridan, on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. where the family will meet with friends and relatives and also at the church on Friday morning, one hour prior to the funeral service.
For those desiring to do so, the family has suggested memorial considerations to either the Faith Lutheran Church or the Spectrum Health Hospice. There will be envelopes available at the funeral home and also at the church.

Marguerite was such a graceful woman. I always admired her. As a kid I would tell her that I wanted her “garage sale” clothes because she always dressed to the nines! Bob and Marguerite were very sweet people. Mark and Sue, I hope you paid attention to how Marguerite mowed her lawn, those are some big shoes to fill there!
