Marguerite E. Gates, age 91 of Saranac, formerly of Stanton, entered into the presence of Jesus on Sunday, July 30, 2017 in Grand Rapids.

She was born the daughter of Carl & Mabel (Willard) Young in Lansing. Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, Orvis; grandson, Ray Schafer II; sisters, Donna Pollock, Ruth Baker; brothers Wayne Young and Theo Young.

Marguerite is survived by her sisters, Viva Dyer of Holt, Mildred (Everett Jr.) Golden of Stanton; daughters, DeAnna Schafer of Saranac, Sally Gates of Whitmore Lake, Nadine (Dan) Petersen of Roxborough, Colorado, Marilyn (Craig) Miller of Tecumseh; grandchildren, Carrie (Roger) Thomas, Michele (Steve) Hoffman, Emily (Brandon) Mulnix, Carl (Kelin) Petersen, Elsa (Matt Weiss) Fluss, Brian (Whitney) Miller, Paul (Christina Henderson) Miller, thirteen great grandchildren.

Marguerite was the world’s best hugger and a woman who took great pride in caring and providing for her family. She was a hard worker having helped her husband at their business, Gates Mower Service for many years and also retiring from Ore-Ida after 21 years. Marguerite enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, one of which was going out to eat. She really loved her family and enjoyed her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by everyone.

Funeral services for Marguerite are being held on Friday, August 4, 2017 beginning at 11:00 AM at the Pine Grove Church (480 N. Pine Grove Road, Stanton) with Pastor Bruce Anna officiating. Visitation with the family is being held also at the church one hour prior to the funeral from 10 to 11 AM. Graveside services will be held at 2 PM at the McBride Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to either the Lowell First Baptist Church, Pine Grove Church or your favorite charity in Marguerite’s memory.
