Lois Springsteen passed from this life on Monday, April 1, 2019 at the age of ninety years. She departed peacefully at Sheridan Community Hospital in the presence of her family. She was given attentive care in her last days by hospital workers and by Spectrum Hospice.
Lois was born to Coyne and Marie (Fisher) Kidder in Sheridan on January 1, 1929. She married Edwin Frank Springsteen at The Peoples Church in East Lansing on May 10, 1947. After their three sons started school Lois began her career in public education at Sheridan High School as a secretary and librarian. She resumed her work in education at Montcalm Community College after their daughter reached school age. Lois retired from the college in December 1986 as administrative assistant to the president, director of personnel and public information, and secretary of the board. During her tenure at the college, Lois earned an associate’s degree, then completed a bachelor’s degree at Central Michigan University. She also taught classes in the college’s education program at the Michigan State Prisons in Ionia.
Lois was a decades-long member of the Congregational Church in Sheridan, where she served as pianist and organist for many years. She gave piano lessons to area children in the years between work in education.
In later years, Lois found a new passion in creating quilts. She attended quilting workshops in Las Vegas for many years, where she extended her wide circle of friends.
Lois was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, student, teacher, mentor and friend. Her deep faith has been fulfilled, but she is missed by many she has left to carry on.
Surviving Lois is her daughter, Joanne Springsteen of Lansing; sons, Ron (Dee) Springsteen of Sheridan; Kevin (Mary) Springsteen of Sheridan; daughter-in-law, Wendy Springsteen of Sheridan; grandchildren, Joe Springsteen; Jennifer (Tim) Hicks; Melissa (Scott) Holm; Jesse Springsteen; Emily Springsteen; Morgan (Max) Beerens; Alexa Springsteen; sister, Nancy (David) Cotton of Big Rapids; brother, Don (Suzanne) Sovereign of Sheridan and sister-in-law, Dorothy Springsteen of Sheridan.
