Leslie L. Smith, age 71, of Orleans, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2011 at Blodgett Hospital, Grand Rapids. He was born March 12, 1940 in Muir, the son of Milton & Doris (Odette) Smith. Both parents have preceded him in death along with his wife, Alice Jean who died on November 25, 2008 and a son, Timothy Smith, who died on December 5, 1995.
Surviving are his children, Craig D. Smith and his fiancé, Barb Herioux of Orleans, Chris Smith of Orleans, Sharon & Kevin VanEtt of Ionia, Nancy & Dave Smith of Portland, Carol & Randy Hoppes of Muir, Ken & Linda Cunningham of Pinconning, David & Denise Cunningham of Ionia and Gary Cunningham of Muir, 20 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, one sister, Shirley Nave of Orleans and one niece and one nephew.
Les has been a lifelong resident of the Orleans area, formerly worked at the Chrysler Trim Plant and then retired from Arch Mineral Company in Hanna, Wyoming. He enjoyed country music; once had a band where he played the drums, especially liked deer hunting as well as just being outdoors in general.
Funeral services will be held at the Simpson Family Funeral Home in Sheridan on Thursday, December 29, 2011 beginning at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be at the Woodard Lake Cemetery, Orleans.
Visitation will be at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral service.
