Leo J. Phenix Sr., age 87 of Sheridan passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at his home. He was born in Belding, Michigan on January 18, 1927, the son of James & Bertha (Harper) Phenix.
On October 4, 1956, Leo was married to Ruth Ellen Hoisington and she preceded him in death on September 21, 2013. Also preceding him was a grandson, James Zander, a great grandson, Riley Adams and four brothers, Wayne, Edward, John & Bruce Phenix.
Surviving are his children, Deb Zander, Sheridan, Tina Phenix, Sheridan, Tammy Turner, Grand Rapids, John & Norma Phenix, Sheridan, Daniel & Nancy Phenix, Sheridan, Leo Phenix Jr. Stanton, Bruce & Susan Phenix, Stanton plus several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and one brother, Charles Phenix of Stanton.
Leo has been a longtime resident of the Sheridan area and was a US Army veteran of World War II. Retired from Frigidaire, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. For the past few months, he spent a lot of time playing with his great grandson who lived with him and also enjoyed his trip to Canada with his son Dan.
Funeral services beginning at 2:00 PM will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014 at the Simpson Family Funeral Home in Sheridan with Pastor Caleb Robbins officiating. Interment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Sheridan.
Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday, one hour prior to the service.
