On a cold frostbitten winter day, January 9, 1956, in Mason, MI, a baby was born named LaVern DeKett. As a young child he learned many things that he carried through to his adult years. LaVern wasn’t rich, he was a simple man, and he made the best out of everything. He loved his family, lighthouses, playing pool, hunting, the fall color changes, country music, and he could not get enough of the pedal steel guitar, it had a sound to soothe any broken heart.
Vern was a veteran who proudly served his country in the United States Army. After his honorable discharge from the military, he later went to work for Shaheen Chevrolet, and then Masters Only Auto Care.
He is preceded in death by his father, mother, sister, nephew, and 2 aunts. Vern is survived by his son Jason DeKett of Lansing, daughters; Melissa (Rick) Myers of Carson City, and Jamie (Jason) DeKett of Big Rapids, several brothers, and sisters, 22 Grandchildren and 17 Great Grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Life Christians Church in Lansing with Pastor David Stephens officiating.
Memorial contributions in memory of Vern may directed towards Melissa Myers as the family deals with his passing.
