Obituary for Joyce Smith

9/22/1929 – 6/21/2013
Joyce E. Smith, age 83 of Ionia and Sheridan, passed away on Friday, June 21, 2013 at the Carson City hospital. She was born on September 22, 1929 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Orlo & Violet (Barclay) Walker. Both parents have preceded her in death.
On February 25, 1950, Joyce was married to James F. Smith Sr. and he passed away on August 1, 2009 after nearly 59 ½ years of marriage.
Surviving are two sons, James F. Smith Jr. of Ionia and Jeffrey & Debra Smith of Otsego plus two granddaughters, Dawn & Stephen Parker and Darla Smith, both of Otsego, several cousins and a very special friend, Annie Reed of Sheridan.
Joyce attended grade school in Kalamazoo and Vickeryville and graduated from Carson City high school in 1947. Prior to her marriage, she worked at the former Michigan Produce Company in Carson City. Joyce and her late husband often sacrificed for their sons as family was very important to her. She was a generous person who loved to shop and buy gifts for others, she loved animals and will be missed by all who knew her.
Graveside services beginning at 2:00 PM will be held on Tuesday, June 25th at the Maple Ridge Cemetery at Vickeryville with Pastor Kenneth Harger officiating.
In keeping with Joyce’s wishes, there will not be any visitation held prior to the graveside service on Tuesday.
