José G. Patino, age 67, of Greenville, passed away on Friday, January 8, 2021 at Spectrum Health Blodgett in Grand Rapids.
Joe dedicated his life to serving and protecting others. For 36 years he worked for the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Department retiring as a Detective Lieutenant, during that time he also worked for the Edmore Police Department. After his retirement from the Sheriff’s office, Joe served as the Chief of Police for the City of Stanton, retiring this past September. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and Command Officers Association of Michigan.
When Joe wasn’t working, he enjoyed spending his time being outdoors and going hunting and fishing. Joe was also a lifetime member of the North American Hunting Club, Ducks Unlimited, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, National Turkey Federation and the Michigan United Conservation Club. However, the biggest passion in Joe’s life was his family, especially his grandchildren and he will be greatly missed by everyone.
Surviving Joe is his mother, Aurora Patino of Edmore; his wife, Jill Patino; daughter, Jenni (Chad) Nelson of Greenville; José II (Becki) Patino of Paw Paw; Josh (Melissa) Patino of Stanton; grandchildren, Devin (Kristyn) Purdy of Wayland; Alyssa Purdy of Silver Spring, Maryland; Kristopher (Samantha) Purdy of Midland; José Patino III and Ellie Patino, both of Paw Paw; Autumn Silverthorn; Ryan Silverthorn; Hadley Patino, all of Stanton; great granddaughter, Savannah; sisters, Angie (Dick) Garner of Blanchard; Rosie (Chuck) Fisk of Vestaburg; Maria (Ed) Bucao of Edmore; brother-in-law, Harold Kohn of Lakeview; sisters-in-law, Linda Swindell of Gowen and Sandy Hansen of Greenville.
Joe was preceded in death by his father, José Patino, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harold & Arlene Kohn.
A police procession honoring Joe will be at 10 AM on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 and people may view that procession in downtown Stanton.
Visitation for Joe will be on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 from 3-8 PM at the Simpson Family Funeral Home in Stanton (225 W. Cedar Street).
Funeral services for Joe will be private and family only.
