John I. Newton, age 80, of Sidney, passed away on Monday, August 8, 2011 at the Life Care Center of Winter Haven, Florida. He was born on December 5, 1930, in Perrinton, the son of Glen & Ilah (Howe) Newton.
On October 9, 1954, in Stanton, he was married to the former Shirley A. Morgan. She preceded him in death on March 27, 2001. Also preceding John in death were his parents and a brother, Lyle Newton.
Surviving are his children, Mitchell & Margaret Newton of Stanton and William & Brenda Newton of Winter Haven, Florida, six grandchildren, Maia Surdam, Marsha & Jon Johnson, and Felix, Olivia & Jonathan Newton, two great grandchildren, Emmet & Gretchen Johnson plus one sister, Shirlee & Robert Vining of Saginaw.
John has been a longtime resident of the Sidney area, was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church of Sidney, a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of the Stanton American Legion Post 452 and retired from Fisher Body in Lansing.
Funeral services will be on Friday, August 12, 2011 beginning at 11:00 A.M. at the Simpson Family Funeral Home, Sheridan, with Pastoral Leader Bernice Sorrels officiating. Interment will be in the Sidney Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday at the funeral home.
For those desiring to do so, the family suggest memorial donations be made in John’s memory, to the Stanton American Legion Post 452 and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
