John Curtis Graves lifelong battle with his demons ended on Monday, October 1, 2018 at his home in Ionia at the young age of 40.
If someone needed something, John Curtis was always there to help, even if that meant giving you the shirt off his back. While he loved being outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman, his greatest love came from spending time with his family, especially his kids and grandkids. John Curtis also enjoyed driving his ATV, mudbogging and working on his hobby farm. He was very active in 4H and not only believed in the principles it taught the kids but lived his life by those principles as well.
Surviving John Curtis is his wife, Angel Graves of Ionia; daughters, Montanna Straw (Robby Risher) of Portland; Kayla Holford of Ionia; sons, Alex (Hannah) Graves of Belding; Tristen (Tasha) Graves of Greenville; Jed Deseno of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Garrett, Liam, Jazzlynne and Remington; father, Curt Graves (Gina McVay) of Madison, Indiana; mother, MaryAnn Basney of Ohio; sisters, Missy (Troy) Conley of Greenville; Amber (Jeremy) Stranahan of Ionia; Tonya Russell of Ohio; brother, Chad (Chrystal) Graves of Indiana; mother-in-law, Bonnie Holford of Ionia. Also surviving John Curtis are the members of the Burgess Lake 4H Club, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins as well as the many kids John Curtis and his wife “adopted” and took in over the years.
John Curtis is preceded in death by his grandma, Shelia Evans; grandpa Lawrence Graves and his beloved dogs, Brutus and Josie.
Memorial services for John Curtis are being held on Friday, October 5, 2018 at the church he loved attending, Ashley Baptist Church in Belding (10463 Belding Road) beginning at 12 Noon with Rev. Dr. David A. Oliver officiating. A luncheon at the church will immediately follow the service.
