Obituary for J.B. Mantooth

Pastor J.B. Mantooth, age 71 of Belding, went to his eternal heavenly home on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, passing away at Spectrum Health Butterworth in Grand Rapids with his family by his side.

Born on August 21, 1943 in Newport, Tennessee, J.B. was the son of Vandell & Elizabeth (Webb) Mantooth and they along with one sister, Judy Mantooth, precede him in death.

On January 14, 1966 in Grand Rapids, J.B. married the former Gloria Loomis and she survives him. J.B. is also survived by three daughters; Mary & Kurt Peterson of Sidney, Julie & Larry Harris of Paw Paw, Elizabeth & Matthew Klingbeil of Sheridan; one son, Matthew & Kelly Mantooth of Taylorsville, Kentucky; fourteen grandchildren, Matthew Mantooth II, Lucas Mantooth both of Taylorsville, KY, Leanne Stephens, Matthew Stephens Jr., Vandel Stephens all of Sidney, MI, Jasen Harris, Jacob Vorce, Andrew Vorce all of Paw Paw, MI, Corey Peterson of Traverse City, MI, Rhea Klingbeil of Sheridan, MI, Gentry Nwosu, of Wolverine Lake, MI, Leah Thompson of Grand Rapids, MI, Garrett Harris of Manchester, MI, Kaylee Harris of Hastings, MI; one great-granddaughter; Arianah Thompson; two sisters, Brenda Mantooth of Tennessee, Susan & Larry Davis of Maryland; four brothers, Butch & Portia Mantooth, Verlin Mantooth, Vandell Jr. & Rusty all of Tennessee and Jerry & Joyce Mantooth of Ohio.

Having spent 45 years as a pastor, with the last 37 years as the Pastor of the Sheridan Church of God, Pastor Mantooth loved his Lord and Savior Jesus. He also enjoyed Tae Kwon Do, boxing, collecting guns and the mountains of Tennessee, always stopping for the fresh clean water of the Clinch Mountains. Pastor Mantooth was a great family man and loving husband, who enjoyed every moment spent with his family and will be missed by all who knew him.

Visitation with Pastor Mantooth’s family will be on Thursday, April 2, 2015, at the Simpson Family Funeral Home in Sheridan from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM and also at 10 AM on Friday before the funeral services.

Funeral services are being held at the Sheridan Church of God on Friday, April 3, 2015 beginning at 11:00 AM with Pastor Danny Stoneham officiating. Final interment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Sheridan.

For those wanting to make a memorial donation in Pastor Mantooth’s memory the family has suggested memorial donations be directed to the National Kidney Foundation and envelopes will be available at both the funeral home and the church.
