Helen Allen

Helen Howe Allen, age 101 of Vickeryville, MI passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at Laurels of Carson City, Carson City, MI. She was born November 8, 1910 in Windber, PA, the daughter of Edward & Ella (Forsyth) Howe.
On July 24, 1937, in Detroit, Helen was married to Harry O. Allen of Ebensburg, PA. He preceded her in death on February 4, 1984. Also preceding her in death were her parents, sisters Alice Sipple-Pease of York, PA, Virginia & Elizabeth Howe of Windber, PA and her brother, John Edward Howe of Johnstown, PA.
Surviving are her children, Jean (Cliff) Morse of Dallas, TX, Daniel (Carolyn) Allen of Page, AZ, and Louise (John) Hastings of Vickeryville, MI, her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Susan (Bradley) Gordon, Greer, Isabel & Quinn Gordon of Dallas, TX, Eric (Elizabeth) Morse and Parker Morse of Allen, TX, Julie Allen of Berkeley, CA, Randal (Rebecca) Allen and twins Henry & Anna Allen of Monterey, CA, one sister, Dorothy Beemer of Emmaus, PA in addition to several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Allen graduated from Indiana State Teachers College in Indiana, PA and taught for the Windber Elementary Schools. Following her marriage to Harry Allen, they lived in Dearborn, MI for several years. In 1944, they purchased a hardware and farm tractor dealership in Vickeryville, MI and operated Allen’s Farm Service until they retired in 1973. For the last few years, Helen has lived with her daughters, Jean Morse in Dallas, TX and Louise Hastings in Vickeryville, MI. She was a member of the Vickeryville United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.
In keeping with Helen’s wishes, cremation has already taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date with the final interment at the Maple Ridge Cemetery, Vickeryville, MI.
The family has suggested for those desiring to do so, that memorial considerations can be made to either the Vickeryville United Methodist Church or the Carson City Public Library.

I am distantly related to Helen. I live in Johnstown,Pa. Many a Sunday when we were young we visited the Howe families in Windber. I think our grandfathers were cousins. The last time I saw any of the family was at Donna’s funeral. My sympathy to you all. I am 87 so getting up there. Jean
