Joyce Wright, age 89 of Sheridan, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2019 in Grand Rapids at the Spectrum Health Blodgett campus.
If anyone ever needed an example on how to live life to the fullest or how to treat people, you needed to look no farther then to Joyce. Throughout her life she modeled for her family and friends what it meant to love, live, work hard, and just to be a great overall human being. For 37 years, Joyce worked with special needs children both as a teacher and a Special Education Coordinator. In retirement, Joyce loved to travel, she spent 30+ years wintering in Brownsville, Texas and made many wonderful friends there. She liked dancing, reading anything she could get her hands on, and watching the Game Show Network. One of Joyce’s most favorite things to do and maybe the thing she loved the most was having her family around her and spending time with them. As often as she could, Joyce would have everyone over to her house at the lake where she would cook her famous roast beef dinner. She loved the 4th of July, seeing all the red, white, and blue decorations and watching all the decorated pontoons on the lake. Joyce will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
Surviving Joyce is her daughter, Sherry (Danny) Jones of Sheridan; sisters, Gloria Lamey of Sheridan; Dawn Powers of Sheridan; Wenda Duflo of Pompeii; brother, Terry (Jean) Sillman of Maple Rapids; grandson, Chad (Lori) Jones of Edmore; great grandchildren, Cody; Carter; Ry; Rocky; Lauren (John); great great granddaughter, Aurora; her significant other of over 20 years, Bob Hughes of Texas and Sheridan, and her “adopted” daughter, Linda Cunningham of Fort Myers, Florida.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Frank & Vivian (Scutt) Sillman; husband, Don Martin; infant daughter, Brenda Joyce Martin and brothers-in-law, Dale Morrison; Ted Powers; Chancey Moore; Jack Lamey and Larry Duflo.
