Obituary for Gordon DeVries

Dr. Gordon DeVries, age 83, formerly of Stanton, passed away on Monday, October 13, 2014 in Grand Rapids. He was born on February 2, 1931 in Grand Rapids, the son of Francis & Leona (Vanderschur) DeVries. Both parents have preceded him in death as well as a brother, Donald DeVries.
On August 24, 1952, Dr. DeVries was married to Catherine “Kay” O’Rourke in Chicago. She preceded him in death on March 2, 2002 after 49 years of marriage.
Surviving are two sons, Jay & Faith DeVries of Belmont, Michigan, Jim DeVries & Todd John of Stanton and four grandchildren, Jake, Tiffany, Autumn and Jenna.
Dr. DeVries attended school at Cedar Lake Schools, now known as Great Lakes Adventist Academy, Andrews University and graduated from the Kansas City School of Osteopathic Medicine. Following an internship, Dr. DeVries opened his medical practice in Stanton and spent over 40 years caring for his patients. In addition to working, “Doc” loved to golf, sail his sailboat and swim in his pool. After his wife’s passing, he moved to the Clark Retirement Community where he made many friends in the past twelve years and will be missed by all those who knew him.
Funeral services beginning at 1:00 P.M. will be held on Friday, October 17, 2014 at the Clark Retirement Community, 1551 Franklin Street, Grand Rapids, Michigan with Chaplain Geraldine Pringle officiating. Final interment will be at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Stanton, Michigan.
There will not be any visitation held prior to the funeral service.
For those desiring to do so, the family has suggested memorial consideration can be made to either the Montcalm County Animal Shelter or the Clark Retirement Community.
