Gaylord L. Houghton, age 61 of Sheridan, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2020, at Spectrum Health Blodgett in Grand Rapids.
Gaylord, or “G.H.”, or “Gator”, as he was known by most of his family and friends was a guy of few words. He was a strong man who had a gentle soul and even deeper convictions, or as some might say, Gator was just plain stubborn. After graduating from Central Montcalm High School in 1977, he furthered his education and became a certified engineer and worked for 30+ years at Federal Mogul. When he wasn’t working, Gator loved going golfing and he also enjoyed hunting and fishing. No matter what you called him, Gaylord, G.H., or Gator, the two names he loved being called the most were, dad and grandpa. He loved his children and grandkids and will be deeply missed by everyone.
Surviving Gator is his mother, Pat Houghton of Stanton; daughters, Hilary Wickes of Stanton and Heather Houghton (Brandon Jeffrey) of Stanton; son, Josh Houghton of Stanton; granddaughter, Ava Jo; grandson, Brayden; special friend, Susan Simons; and lots of aunts and uncles; and many cousins.
Gator is preceded in death by his father, Gaylord Houghton and sister, Joy Houghton.
Gator’s life is being celebrated on Friday, August 21, 2020 at the Pavilion at Nevins Lake Bible Church (837 S. Nevins Road, Stanton). Visitation is being held from 10 to 11 AM with the funeral ceremony beginning at 11 AM with Pastor Tim Ross officiating. Final interment will be at Trufant Cemetery.
