Gary Johnson

July 8, 1937 — November 3, 2021

Gary L. Johnson, age 84, of Carson City, passed away on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at the Laurels of Fulton.

Gary was a diehard MSU fan through-and-through - Go Green! He loved watching the games while enjoying his popcorn. As a young kid, he was very active in 4-H and was a pretty good softball player as an adult. Gary was very particular when it came to his yard and always had it looking great. Gary was co-owner of Gary’s Food Center in Carson City for many years. He also worked for Grand Trunk Railroad in Lansing. Gary was proud of the fact he continued working and didn’t retire until age 76. When he wasn’t working, he liked to go hunting, camping, going to Silver Lake and seeing the lighthouses and sand dunes. Gary was a very active and faithful member of the Carson City Congregational Church where he served in many different committees and various positions. However, the thing Gary loved the most, was his family and spending time with them. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

Surviving Gary are his daughters, Julie (Jim) Hagerman of Carson City, Jill (Dave) Walker of Belding; son, Jeff Johnson of Carson City; grandchildren, Tiffany (Chris) Hardy of Carson City, Cody (Sara) Hagerman of Carson City, Keaton (Morgan) Johnson of Lansing, Kacey Johnson of Alma, Kameron Johnson of Carson City, Seth (Annelise) Walker of Howard City, Emily Walker of Belding; great grandchildren, Lilly Hagerman, Ellery Hardy, Lawson Hardy, Leo Johnson, and Chloe Walker; sisters, Virgalene Reeder of Carson City and Darlene Eller of Sheridan; and lifelong friend, Garry Montague.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Leo & Hilda (Jensen) Johnson; his beloved wife of 61 years, Diane Johnson; brothers, Vernon Johnson and Victor Johnson; and his dog, Beau.

Private family services will be held.
