Fred Ehle

February 21, 1930 — February 13, 2021

Fred K. Ehle of Sidney rode off into the arms of Jesus after almost 91 years here on God's earth. He was born on February 21, 1930 and passed on February 13, 2021.

Fred was the 2nd of 9 children born to Merle and LuDell (Peterman) and Dorothy (Jensen) Ehle and resided his entire life in Montcalm County. Fred proudly served his country in the US Army from 1951-1953, stationed in Thule, Greenland. On September 13, 1953 he married the love of his life, his faithful and devoted wife of 67 years, Joyce Marie Clark, and began a legacy of love that continues through Joyce and their four children. As the father of Kay (Jack) Powell, and Vicky Ehle, both of Sheridan; Beth (Robert) Spica of Caledonia; and Ty (Chris) Ehle of Long Beach, Mississippi, Fred leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents Merle and LuDell Ehle, his step-mother, Dorothy Ehle, his mother and father in-law, Harold and Lucy Clark of Edmore; his brother Edward and his wife Donna; brother Bernard; sister Patricia and her husband Albert (Buck) Hopkins, sister Joyce Ann and her husband Don Wallace, brother-in-law Bob Niswonger, his beloved Uncle Curly (Earl) Peterman and his wives Madeline and Sarah, his nephews Scott Clark and Kelly Burns; and so very many relatives and friends they are too numerous to count, but each and every one held a place in Fred's heart.

He is survived by his brother and sisters-in-law Jim and Merrilee Clark and Alice Logan, sister Virginia Niswonger, sister-in-law Rosie Ehle, sister Margaret (Gilbert) Morris, brother Eugene (Rose) Ehle, and brother Milo (Molly) Ehle, and family and so very many friends Fred considered family.

Because of his time serving, prior to his death Fred was the oldest living member of the Stanton American Legion. He served many years in the Montcalm County Sheriff's Posse, most of those years as the Captain. Fred worked at the Carnation Plant in Sheridan and then as a mason for Nestle Construction. Later he retired from his business, Ehle's Livestock Trucking, and found great joy in volunteering at Heritage Village in Sidney, teaching those about the past. Fred and Joyce spent many fall weekends at Robinette's Orchard where Fred enjoyed driving the teams of horses for wagon rides; showing his horses at the Berlin Fair, and as a member of the West Michigan Draft Horse Association. He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life but nothing more so than his family and all those babies! A simple man with simple pleasures, Fred will forever be remembered in his community for bringing Santa to town each year and as the "man with all the flags" at the end of many parades.

For the past year Fred was cared for by the loving, caring and devoted staff of Green Acres of Lowell Memory Care Unit, something his family will be forever grateful for.

A Christian funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2021, beginning at 1 PM, at the Butternut Bible Church (7351 Crystal Road, Carson City), with Gilbert Morris officiating. Visitation will also be at the church from 11 AM to 1 PM on Thursday. Graveside services and military rites will be held in the spring at Sidney Township Cemetery.

If you wish to make a donation in Fred's memory, the family would appreciate you considering Kindred Hospice of Kent County, Stanton American Legion Post #452, or the International Promise Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the church.
