Elaine M. Leak, age 76, of Edmore, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2022, at Green Acres of Mt. Pleasant.
Elaine graduated from Alma Public Schools and went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Central Michigan University in 1967. In that same year, she married the love of her life, Maurice “Frank” and together they enjoyed 55 years together. Elaine taught several different grades at Alma Public School during her 35 year teaching career. She also spent many hours after school helping her husband run their business in Edmore, Frank’s TV and Video. After her retirement, Elaine was active in her community as she helped to build the Edmore Farmer’s Market, headed the Montabella Ministerial Food Pantry, and served as the Treasurer for the Edmore Village Council for several years. She was a devoted and busy member of Faith United Methodist Church in Edmore, where she assisted with many committees including the Potato Tent and Vacation Bible School. Elaine was well known for sending handmade cards to friends and family on holidays and special occasions. She traveled extensively with her family, taking short trips to Traverse City and longer trips to New England, North Carolina, Texas, and even a 6 week tent camping trip to and from California. One of Elaine’s biggest passions was her large garden where she would spend many hours tending and harvesting produce which she enjoyed sharing with her neighbors.
Elaine is survived by her husband, Maurice “Frank”; daughter, Michelle Leak-Rensland of Edmore; son, Michael (Sindi Leyrer) Leak of Mt. Pleasant; granddaughter, Mara; grandsons, Seth, Kyle, Tarryn (Nanette), Trayton, Tristyn; 3 great grandchildren; sisters, Barb Weeks of Greenfield, Massachusetts and Mary Kay Carr of Battle Creek; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Janice Leak of Lake Odessa, Donna Tyler of Lowell, Larry & Joyce Leak of Ionia, and Dennis & Helen Leak of Charlotte, North Carolina.
A memorial service celebrating Elaine’s life is being held at the Faith United Methodist Church in Edmore (833 S. 1st St.) on Saturday, September 10th at 12:00 PM, with a visitation one hour prior to the service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
