E. Jean Byers, age 91, of Sheridan passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at the United Memorial Hospital, Greenville. She was born on December 30, 1921 in Petoskey, the daughter of Glee & Bessie (Dunnigan) Wickett.
On May 17, 1940, Jean was married to Edwin N. Byers in Greenville and he preceded her in death on May 22, 2004. She was also preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, Mary Ann in 1951, and a son, Dennis E. Byers in 1967.
Surviving is one son and daughter-in-law, Jack & Sharon Byers of Fenwick, 4 granddaughters, Julie & Scott Mikek of Belding, Casey & IV Mumby of Greenville, Erica & Curtis Pelton of Wyoming, Janis Sherman of Ionia, one grandson, Jay & Dawn Sherman of Ionia, 15 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren plus several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Jean has been a lifelong resident of Sheridan; she was a member of the VFW Post 5065 of Sheridan and worked for Sheridan Community Hospital for many years. She played the piano and organ since the age of three and played for her church most of her life. She loved her family very much and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11:00AM will be held on Friday, November 22, 2013 at St. Bernadette of Lourdes Church in Stanton with Father Michael Cilibraise officiating. Interment will be at the Sheridan Cemetery.
Visitation from 6 until 8 PM will be on Thursday evening at the Simpson Family Funeral Home in Sheridan where the family will meet with friends and relatives.
The family has suggested for those desiring to do so, that memorial considerations can be made to the Sheridan Community Hospital. There will be envelopes available at the funeral home.
