Duane “Dyke” Dykstra, age 85 of Stanton, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at Spectrum Health United Hospital in Greenville.
Dyke was a very hard worker and a guy who would roll up his sleeves and do whatever it took to get the job done. He was a charter member of the Great Lakes Distance Riders and helped coordinate and set up the logistical parts of the ride. Dyke loved all animals and his dogs. However, horses held a special place in Dyke’s heart, especially his draft horses, which he loved taking out for drives. He also volunteered with the Michigan Horse Council and one year was awarded their Volunteer of the Year. But above everything, Dyke loved his family and spending time with them.
Surviving Dyke is his wife of 61 years, Betty; his children, Brian (Beth) Dykstra of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Martin Dykstra of Allen, Texas; Elizabeth Dykstra of Shelton, Washington; sisters-in-law, Gail Werner of Caledonia; Ruth Cornell of Sutter Creek, California; Connie Field of Jamestown, Tennessee; Carol Phelps of Largo, Florida and many nieces and nephews.
Dyke was preceded in death by his parents, William & Lillian (Sweers) Dykstra and a brother, Bob Dykstra.
