Donald “Punk” Gachter, age 75, of Sheridan, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, January 18, 2021, under the loving care of his family and Spectrum Hospice.
Don, or Punk as he was known by family and friends, loved going hunting and was very proud that he taught his grandson to hunt. In his younger years, he liked racing his snowmobile. Punk also enjoyed the family vacations he took with his kids. In 1990 he and his wife, Laurie, bought one of his parent’s farm; it quickly became their pride and joy, where they raised cows, grew crops, and provided them a place to take care of their horses. Punk worked on both his farm and at GM Fisher Body in Lansing, until 2006 when he retired from the factory after 41 ½ years of service. Punk and Laurie loved horse camping and riding in Northern Michigan. He was a member of the UAW Local 602, the Michigan Trail Riders Association and the Greenville American Legion.
Punk is survived by his wife, Laurie Gachter; daughters, Denise (Jeff) Ledford of Stanton; Kari (Dale) Korhorn of Rockford; son, Donald Gachter of Sheridan; grandchildren, Lane Ledford and Libby Ledford, both of Stanton; sisters, Joyce Noah of Mesa, Arizona; Janette Brace of Stanton; brothers, Dick (Penny) Gachter of Sheridan; Jack (Marcia) Gachter of Mesa, Arizona; and close family friend, Gordy Goodwin of Sheridan; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gary and Lina Todd, and their son, Robert Todd, all of Miami, Florida and many nieces and nephews.
Punk was preceded in death by his parents, August & Evelyn (Prowdley) Gachter; sisters, Mary Lou Gachter; Donna Rasmussen; Joan Gallagher; brothers, Ralph Gachter and Robert Gachter.
