Obituary for Dennis Lane

10/22/1961 – 2/6/2011
Dennis M. “Buzz” Lane, age 49, of Sheridan, passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2011 at St. Mary’s Health Care in Grand Rapids following a courageous battle against cancer since 1997. He was born on October 22, 1961 in Sheridan, the son of Wayne W. & Eleanor L. (O’Berry) Lane.
Buzz was preceded in death by his grandparents and also his father, Wayne Lane on April 9, 2005.
Surviving is his mother, Eleanor Lane of Sheridan, his wife, Connie Taylor Lane, one daughter, Ashley Lane of Sheridan, one step daughter, Melissa Taylor of Sidney, one step son, Kyle Taylor of Sidney, three grandchildren, Gage Dennis Lane, Myles Gesselman and Collyn Taylor in addition to one sister, Lori & Tony Brace of Sheridan, three brothers, Greg Lane, Mike & Becky Lane and Doug & Norrine Lane, all of Sheridan plus several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends.
Buzz has been a lifelong resident of the Sheridan area. He worked with his father at Wayne’s Repair until his dad’s passing in 2005 and since then, he has solely owned and operated the business. He was a member of the Small Business Association, the Shamrock Hunting Club, the Huck-O’Berry Lodge and the Issac Walton Conservation Club. Buzz loved the outdoors; hunting, fishing, boating, camping and mushroom hunting as well as his Thursday night card games and entertaining. He loved his family and they all loved him; all of them will miss his cooking, which he thoroughly enjoyed doing.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, February 11, 2011 at the Shiloh Community Church, Orleans with Pastor Jim Vandewarker and Gilbert Morris officiating. Interment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery, Sheridan.
Visitation will be at the Simpson Family Funeral Home, Sheridan on Wednesday and Thursday from 2–4 P.M. and 6–7:30 P.M. where the family will meet with friends and relatives.
For those planning an expression of sympathy, memorial considerations for the family, to assist with medical expenses, would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.

I am a cousin to this brave and loving man. Buzzy had fought hard for a long time with this horrible disease. He was a very happy go lucky guy and never once thought oh poor me. Buzzy loved his family and friends and enjoyed his work. The last time that I talked with Denny was about the horses and even thou I have them he didn’t want another one. He told me they were for the wife not for him especially if they got out. Then he laughed. If you look into Denny’s eyes in the picture and in real life you can just tell what a kind sole he was. We are all very very lucky to have known him. Denny, I know how much you valued life or you would not have fought so hard and hung on for so long. Thank you for being there also when we had a loss in our family. Buzzy, in my eyes your were a real trooper…. You will be sadly missed not only by your family but by all who had gotten to know you. May God Bless the family as this sorrow will pass but the memories will never be forgotten. I love you all Jackie

I am a waitress to this young and brave loving man’s wife and daughter and I want to send my sympathy out to the family I am very sorry for your loss Buzzy will be missed dearly. Your in my thoughts and prayers. May God Bless you and your family at this sad time. Love, your waitress at Greenville Lanes LA. PS. Here is a little poem that I wanted to share. Do not stand at my grave and weep; I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning’s hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there, I did not die.

Buzzy, I remember going to your kindergarten graduation. Just a little guy on the stage at the old community center with your eyes closed, your face red and your head down, clearly not wanting to be there. How cute you looked! But now all of life’s hard times have passed and you’re in awe that Heaven uses gold to pave it’s streets. What tremendous things you’re seeing! My brother went there a year ago today. Tell him Hi for me. You can sit and remember the “Shamrock Hunting Club” together. I DO have to admit to a certain jealousy. God now has the world’s TWO best mechanics! It was hard losing your dad and now you. Apparently God has a lot of vehicles needing help! May you rest without illness or tragedy and may God bless the family through all of their sorry, helping them to remember and cherish the good times. Aunt Janice

I only had the pleasure of being around Buzzy a couple time when Connie brought him to one of our Rockford Rotary functions. But one thing was always noticable: they both shared a certain twinkle in their eyes, a twinkle that told you that a fun loving person with a deep appreciation for life and for other people lived inside that twinkle. I’m sure that people found Buzzy easy to like, a trait that he shared with Connie.

To all of the Lane family I was sad to hear of Buzzy’s passing. I was always greatful that Wayne and Buzz kept Ma’s car in working order. I’ve been away from the Sheridan area for 13 years, but it will always be home to me and the folks there my friends. I thought of the early days at the shell and standard stations and the Lane boys and the Miller boys having card games at Randy’s house. I have many memories that make me smile I hope it will do the same for all of you. Happy trails my friend till we meet again. Terry

Another wonderful boyhood friend gone on to be with Scott, Rick and Brent. Our prayers and thoughts are with you and family at this difficult time. Buzzy and Wayne kept Darc’s and my cars always running in good condition. Making conversation with Buzzy was a low reply and a chuckle. Always remember the good times!! Much love.
