Arlene Ann Bookie

Arlene Ann Bookie, age 88, of Sheridan, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at Sparrow Ionia Hospital.

Arlene was affectionately known as "Wort" by her family and friends. Throughout the years she worked at many local establishments including, Pete's Bar, Bullwinkles Bar, Little Tommy's, G.W. Grant, and probably her favorite, Hogs Head Saloon. Wort loved caring for cats and would faithfully feed them. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. There were no quick trips to the store with Wort as she practically knew everyone in Sheridan, knew their families too, and loved to tell her family who so-and-so was and how they were related to them. Wort will be dearly missed by everyone.

Surviving Wort are her children, Frank (Denise) Bookie, Carol (John) Misner, William Bookie; grandchildren, Chris (Michelle) Bookie, Chad (Angie) Bookie, Renee Misner, Jody (Gregg) Garrison; great grandchildren, Avery, Lillian, Mollie, Darcy, Henry, Donovan, Mason, Lucy, Charlotte, and Clare; sister, Tonya Hall; brothers, Jack Rowland, Blair (Anita) Rowland, Marvin (Carol) Ludwick; brother-in-law, Ron Greenhoe; sister-in-law, Judy Waterman; many nieces and nephews; and her special friend, Jen.

Wort was preceded in death by her mom and stepdad, Verna & Theo Beard; dad and stepmom, Harold & Dorothy Rowland; sister, Jacqueline Greenhoe; brother, Leo Waterman; sister-in-law, Peggy Rowland; and cousin, Sandra Mundy.

Wort's life is being celebrated on Wednesday, November 2nd at the Simpson Family Funeral Home in Sheridan (246 S. Main St.). Visitation will be from 10 AM to 11 AM. Funeral services will begin at 11 AM.
