Andrew Joel Springsteen, age 57 of Lansing, passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2019. Andy was born February 18, 1961 in Sheridan and is the son of Harold and Dorothy Springsteen.
Andy graduated from Central Montcalm High School in 1979. He went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Navy and the Naval Reserves. Andy attended Michigan State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Science degree in Criminal Justice.
Andy worked for many years as a commercial and residential painter, but his heart and passion was in his music. He was a talented performer and played many instruments. He especially loved the guitar. Andy was also a poet and composed some of the songs that he loved to sing.
Andy was a gifted and natural athlete and excelled in any sport in which he chose to participate. He especially loved basketball and baseball and like his father, had been a star short stop player in high school.
Sports continued to be an area of interest for Andy and he loved cheering on the MSU Spartans and was an avid fan of both the Tigers and Red Wings.
Andy is preceded in death by his father, Harold A. Springsteen; a niece, Erin Springsteen and a nephew, Joshua Fish.
He is survived by his mother, Dorothy M. Springsteen of Sheridan; siblings, Michael (Betty) Springsteen of St. Ignace, Susan (Steve) Fish of Stanton, Nicholas (Cheryl) Springsteen of Greenville, Peter (Barbara) Springsteen of Traverse City, many nieces and nephews and seven great nieces and nephews.
Andy was a very caring son, brother, uncle and friend and will be greatly missed by his family. You could always count on Andy for a joke, a laugh and wonderful music.
Memorial services for Andy will begin at 11 AM on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at the Sheridan Congregational Church with Pastor Phil Van Dop officiating. Final inurnment will be at the Sheridan Cemetery.
For those wishing to make a memorial donation in Andy’s memory the family suggests you direct them to the Sheridan Congregational Church. Envelopes will be available at the church on Saturday.
