Maxine L. Kostuck, age 85 of Crystal, passed away in Grand Rapids at Spectrum Health Butterworth, on Sunday, March 17, 2019, which was ironically 31 years to the day that her husband Johnnie Kostuck also passed away.

Maxine was a person who loved spending time with her friends and especially her family. She enjoyed going fishing on Crystal Lake, camping and watching beautiful sunsets. When she wasn’t outdoors, she could be found working on her word search books, crocheting doilies for her family, trying her luck at the casinos or playing her favorite lotto games the Daily Fantasy 5 and her favorite Daily 3 & 4 numbers 317 and 5749. The passing of Maxine leaves a hole in the heart of everyone who knew her, and she will be deeply missed.

Surviving Maxine are her two daughters, Joanne (Jim) Withey of Greenville and Kelly Nickels (Jason Shaffer) of Sidney; grandchildren, Mallissa Burnham of Hesperia; Shelly (Jeff) Harkey of Lexington, North Carolina; Sharee Nickels of Crystal; Jaimie (Richie) Lindsley of Sidney; Jaramie (Michelle) Avery of Belding; Amanda Human of Stanton; Morgen Allen of Sumner; Lillian Alguire of Sidney; Lilly Shaffer of Sidney and Aryanna Shaffer of Sidney, 18 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters, Loretta Cadieux of Rochester and Deloris (Eugene) Freske of Posen; brothers, Leo (Beth) Ross of Conway, South Carolina and Jerry (Diane) Ross of Newaygo; son-in-law, Pete Benadick of Ruskin, Florida; many nieces and nephews and special friends, Archy & Mel Simmons of Sumner; Jack & Darlene Allen of Sumner and her casino and fishing buddy, Sherry Mendyke.

Maxine is preceded in death by her parents, Max & Hyacinth (Jacobs) Ross; two husbands, Leonard Nickels and Johnnie Kostuck; a brother, Don Ross; daughter, Rene’ Benadick and a nephew, Leo Ross.

Maxine has been our neighbor since October, 2018. She gave us a short time to get settled and showed up at our door with a plate of goodies. We exchanged things often, she would bring a few cupcakes or cookies and when I made soup or chili or we had pizza we would share. We enjoyed her cheery face and attitude. We will miss her.
We send our sympathy and condolences to her family.
Fred and Lucille
