Obituary

Joseph W. Burggren, age 71, of Edmore, passed away at his home on Sunday, October 11, 2020, under the loving care of his family and Hospice of Michigan.

There are many words which can be used to describe Joe; fun, outgoing, generous, and helpful are just a few. However, the absolute best way to explain who Joe Burggren was, can be summed up in just two words: Family Man. Joe dearly loved his family and cherished every moment spent with them. Whether it was through a nickname he gave you, the extra dollar you got in your birthday card, because you were his “favorite” (everyone always looked forward to that), helping you out with a project or just being there for you, Joe always put his family first. He also dearly loved his wife Susan and enjoyed spoiling her every chance he got.

Joe also proudly served his country during Vietnam as a member of the United States Marine Corps. He was also a member of the Edmore VFW, Blanchard American Legion, and Knights of Columbus. If you had just met Joe, it didn’t take long to realize what a fun guy he was. The world was made a little better because of Joe and he will be deeply missed by everyone.

Surviving Joe is his wife of 49 years, Susan; daughter, Wendy (Jeff) Hubers of Cedar Springs; sons, Bill (Susie) Burggren of Lakeview; Jay (Lisa) Burggren of Edmore; grandchildren, Tyler (Carlee) Gifford of St. Louis; Drew (Danielle) Burggren of Edmore; Brady (Taylor) Burggren of Lakeview; Parker Burggren, Chase Burggren and Lesley Burggren all of Edmore; Kayla Walters of Cedar Springs; great grandchildren, Kayson, Nevaeh and Braylon; sisters, Mabel (Chuck) Frisbie of Vestaburg; Connie (Roger) Sewell of Pensacola, Florida; brother, Bud (Cindy) Burggren of Six Lakes; sister-in-law, Maxine Shurlow of Edmore; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Sophie.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Ora & Myree (Stambaugh) Burggren; brothers, Jack Burggren and Kerry Burggren and sister, Vickie Rohn.

Joe’s life is being celebrated on Friday, October 16, 2020 at New Beginnings Church in Six Lakes (1154 W. Fleck Road). Visitation is being held from 10 to 11 AM and the memorial ceremony will begin at 11 AM. Military Honors will be conducted at the church immediately after the memorial ceremony. Final inurnment will be at McBride Cemetery.

For those wanting to make a memorial donation in Joe’s memory the family asks you direct them to Hospice of Michigan. Envelopes will be available at the church.

Sue and family,
When I saw Joe's Obituary on Facebook my heart just sunk. I am so sad for you today. Joe however is up in heaven on a fishing trip with Steve Penn and Alan Barbee. You can only imagine how much fun they are having. I am sending you a virtual hug and prayers for grace.
